Hampton Court Flower Show 2008

English Heritage Gardens are pleased to present our 'Small Garden' for the 2008 Hampton Court Flower Show.

Small Garden - Secret Garden

The Garden has been designed as a place to sit and enjoy nature. The garden seat looks out onto a cobble mosaic of a fern leaf, this relects the use of ferns within the garden. Beyond the mosaic, water trickles through a crack in the Sussex Sandstone into the pool it overhangs.
The seating area is protected by a curved wall of stacked logs, some drilled with holes to encourage insects and planted with occasional ferns.
The gentle muted tones of the log stack wall are contrasted with the youthful silver birch trunks which rise above from behind.
The entrance and surface around the mosaic is reclaimed york stone, the stone is butt jointed with no pointing or cement, again opportunity for nature to encroach and soften the view.
