At English Heritage Gardens we would like to show you a vision of how your outdoor space can be a place where you will be able to feel inspired, Exercise, Relax, Hide, Stroll, Breathe, Escape and Play.

Gardens designed by artists, not computers!

Alongside our client’s trust and ambition, we give our collective of garden design skill to their outdoor space. We do not use computers, we use talented artists with the right creative experience to capture the best ideas through all stages of the garden design evolution.
A garden design is a starting point. We believe that the design and motivations need to be considered and strengthened throughout the construction.
Beyond the initial build of a garden it is also imperative that the garden is constantly appraised so that the garden is always kept moving forward.

The initial design impetus is curated by Peter Baldock.
Peter started his gardening career as Head Gardener at Pashley Manor Gardens which under his direction was voted best garden in 1999 by the Historic Houses Association. Peter along side Tom Marsh with English Heritage Gardens Ltd has been responsible for the revival and care of some of England's finest gardens – including Gravetye Manor, Pashley Manor and the BBC's Wood Norton.
Tom Marsh is a garden designer, artist and architectural illustrator. His skills are key to illustrating our design story to clients.
Beautiful planting designs are prepared by Paul McCauley. Paul’s love for planting design has grown from his roles as head gardener at Gravetye Manor, Dorothy Clive and prestigious private gardens.
Paul is a also a gifted writer and uses this skill with great effect to illuminate his planting plans.
We are supported by garden writer David Williams, ex head Kitchen gardener at HRH Prince Charles High Grove Royal Garden. He provides invaluable garden consultancy with estate management and making sure gardens move in the right direction.

Beyond the broader brushstrokes of the above design processe we also have artisans that focus on the detailing, these include:
Blacksmith Richard Pelham who makes all of our garden metal work from ornate wrought iron gates to metal edging in the Victorian style.
Charlotte Molesworth, acclaimed topiary guru.
Gifted wood workers and sculptors.
We also have a committed support team of electricians, irrigation specialists, material merchants and landscape contractors that are ready to help.

Bloms Bulbs, winners of 65 RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medals have very kindly supplied Tulips and other bulbs to the Bistro @ the Station garden. We have used these along side winter bedding in the railway platform planters at Etchingham and Robertsbridge Station.

A magical fairy garden
Our latest creation was requested by our client's young children.
"We want a magical fairy garden"
So far we have created the main terraces and pathways which have been inset with Sussex marble, clay tiles, york stone and clay pavers. The garden is now ready for the construction of 'ruin' wall/folly which will create a sense of seclusion and intimacy around the lower seating area. Salvaged masonry from old buildings will create an aged realism.
In the true style of Victorian romanticism the folly wall will be softened by a lush abundance of ferns and shade loving perennials. English Ivy will be encourage to grow on and over the new wall to create that sense of the Secret Garden.
